The NO-BS Guide to Running Watches for 2024
Переглядів 4 тис.14 днів тому
We spent the last 8 months testing running watches of different brands and different prices. It's not really a matter of which one is best, but a matter of which watch is best for which runner/use. As usual nobody sent us watches for review, we buy them all at retail so that we can stay independent. We have in-depth video reviews of all the watches mentioned in the video: - Garmin Forerunner 16...
Garmin Forerunner 165 Review
Переглядів 6 тис.Місяць тому
The Garmin Forerunner 165 is very much Garmin’s response to the Coros Pace 3. It is not a hand-holding watch like the other models in the Forerunner range. This watch cares less about your recovery, less about the general data, and less about guiding you through a training plan. But is begging to be channelled in a specific region of training with a copious amount of data fields readily to roll...
Hoka Cielo X1 - for soft Marathons
Переглядів 2,9 тис.2 місяці тому
The Hoka Cielo X1 is a heavy racer which feels more like a long run trainer. It has incredibly deep, soft cushioning and a high toe-spring but its flexible carbon plate makes it feel too relaxed and not aggressive enough. While it feels very comfortable and efficient on long runs, it’s not a top-tier racer and at $275, it’s heavily overpriced For the full review: www.runningshoesguru.com/review...
Saucony Ride 17 - The Most Versatile Daily Trainer
Переглядів 4,3 тис.2 місяці тому
The Saucony Ride 17 is a superb neutral daily trainer which excels in versatility. While it still doesn’t have much flair, it has excellent stability and durability, and it represents great value. Version 17 has a more modern ride than version 16 due to its upgraded PWRRUN midsole. It has noticeably more energy return but it comes in at a much heavier weight. SUUNTO Race - The one that gets you back home.
Переглядів 15 тис.2 місяці тому
The SUUNTO Race GPS watch seems to sit inbetween the Polar Vantage v3 and Coros Pace 3 with its recovery metrics, aesthetics form the V3 and robustness, battery life and training focus of the CP3 (also with a mid-way price tag to boot). However the SUUNTO Race comes out top of the pile when it comes to navigation. With so many ways to get back on route even i found it a challenge to get lost! I...
Nike Alphafly 3 - Compared to Alphafly 2 and Vaporfly 3
Переглядів 17 тис.2 місяці тому
The Nike Alphafly 3 is a superb top-tier racer and the best Alphafly version to date but it’s not deserving of its megahype or its $285 price. While it lacks the ‘magical’ feeling, it still has a combination of critical features (light weight, firm, stable, efficient) which provide a high level of speed assistance to the runner. Version 3 is a much better version than 2. It has a continuous bot...
New Balance Super Comp Elite v4 - Review
Переглядів 17 тис.3 місяці тому
The New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Elite v4 is a fun, stable long-distance racer. It has one of the softest and most cushioned rides of any super shoe but it lacks a high level propulsion. This is due to its cushioning still being too soft and its gentle forefoot rocker which doesn't give you a big forward tipping sensation. Version 4 has a vastly improved upper which has better heel lockdown a...
Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro 2 Review
Переглядів 9 тис.3 місяці тому
The Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro 2 is a unique racer designed to quicken transitions by forcing you to midfoot/forefoot strike. It’s not a top-tier racer because it doesn’t have the springboard snap due to its heel cutoff, so it doesn't feel as fast. For most runners, it’s only suitable for short-distance races and workouts due to its instability and the ankle strength that you need when you use i...
Saucony Endorphin Speed 4 - Review
Переглядів 11 тис.3 місяці тому
The Saucony Endorphin Speed 4 is a flexible, plated trainer which is best suited to uptempo runs. It doesn’t offer as much speed assistance as other plated trainers but it has a natural ride with excellent traction. Version 4 feels faster than version 3 due to its firmer ride. It has a higher level of ground feel and a more streamlined design. Take the 7-Day Challenge! bit.ly/bpr-7day For the f...
Saucony Endorphin Pro 4 Review
Переглядів 13 тис.3 місяці тому
The Saucony Endorphin Pro 4 is a good racer which is best suited to marathon racing. It has a soft, stable ride and a very stiff carbon plate but it isn't in the top tier of racers due to its midsole foams and geometry. Version 4 has a softer ride and a less aggressive forefoot rocker so it doesn't have as much oomph but it has more long-distance comfort. Take the 7-Day Challenge! bit.ly/bpr-7d...
"We threw it down a window" - Casio G-Shock GBD-H2000 Review
Переглядів 12 тис.3 місяці тому
While the G-Shock GBD-H2000 is the first of its range to have Heart rate reading and GPS technology incorporated… it has a lot of work to do if it wants to charge $399 and keep up with its competitors. At best this H2000 model is a fitness tracker not an all-out fitness watch - for starters it’s limited to seven sports profiles! And its reliability is questionable against the gold standards. Ta...

What would be the first choice for shorter distance trail runners then? I do no more than 5 miles over the countryside/trails and not looking for a long distance shoe.

How difficult is the terrain? If it's just unpaved roads and some rocks you can get away with a road-to-trail shoe such as the pegasus trail

@@Runningshoesgurucom Thanks for reply. I'm in the Scottish Borders and the terrain is mainly over grassy fields. I'll check out the Pegasus trails. Have the Asics Trabuco Max 2 at the moment but find them too 'clumpy' and heavy for the short distance I run. Very comfy though.

my lineup: long/recovery runs: Ultraboost 23. comfortable if you get the size right, which is particularly tricky with this shoe, it comes smaller than expected. at 800 km, foam looks and feels decent, though prone to chipping on impact with pretty much anything that isn't stadium terrain/not covered by the undersole. upper material is starting to become abrasive, a few blisters have started to pop up on 25+ km runs. speedy shorter runs: Adizero SL. not great, not terrible. foam's a bit stiff and even hard, so definitely not a shoe to wear when fearing injuries. at 250 km, foam looks wrinkly like an 80 year old smoker but I've hardly noticed a change in stiffness if there was any. plenty of undersole material, typical for Adidas. raceday shoe: Novablast 3: absolute banger of a shoe, fast, responsive, soft and stable, without any fancy tech though and with alarmingly small undersole patches. takes about 50-80 km to break in and get used to. at 150 km, foam feels noticeably different to how it felt in km 20, though not in a bad way... it still makes you wonder though how much this shoe will change and how durable it is. the shoe is cosmetically pretty much new though and is absolutely comfortable for 21-42 km. trail: Akasha II: a wild beast. soft midsole with an extra stiff and grippy undersole material. is the speedgoat's undersole feels like an eraser the akasha feels like a bloody suv tire. undersole is a bit stiff, however, which can give you speed but takes away some feeling of the terrain if that's important to you. has very effective toe protection. at 85 km it's basically brand new but I've only taken it on 20+ trail runs and it has been consistently stellar. thanks for the recommendations. that saucony looks great for chill runs. cheers :)

I am glad you didn’t pick any plated "super trainers". There’s nothing wrong with them. Some are great and I have two of them that I occasionally use. But I feel a plate in a running shoe and premium pricing make them gimmicky. After all running should still be the poor folk’s sport.

Thank you for the review!! I got it from a friend who bought them wrong size and it became a bargain for me. I found the heel part airy and super comfortable, yet I am training for 20k. So, your comment to use them up to 10k has been useful, many thanks. I will use these shoes for shorter runs and fitness!!

I have been running in the past year in the original wave rebellions and since my second pair started to break down, I went for my first run in the 2s - they were okay. I just did 14K in them today. i'm not entirely sure how much I like these compared to the originals to be honest and I'll have to give them another couple runs to be sure about how I feel with them. Right now. I'm starting to train for the NYC marathon and picked up a pair of vaporfly 3 today to compare and contrast the feel and ride, and after a couple half marathon runs this week I'll choose which once I keep to train. Overall, I like what Mizuno has done and has a mid-striker I find them comfortable over distance.

Fast-forward to May of '24, and these are on clearance at Running Warehouse for $120... a great value within the daily trainer price range and much more justifiable. These are now among the best daily trainers money can buy, IMO. I just snagged a pair and so far like them more than the adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2 that I bought last year. I'm not a racer but can appreciate the extra quality, cushioning, and bounce of these premium shoes after waiting for them to drop in price.

I guess Polar does not count :) I used Garmin and their data was too much for me. Now I have Polar Pacer Pro. Yes, it is a boring watch with a dim screen and syncing issues, their training plans are much better for beginner runners than Garmins. It is clean and not overwhelming.
